Biographical Note

Patrick Chapman was born in Ireland in 1968. His poetry books are Jazztown (Raven Arts Press, 1991), The New Pornography (Salmon, 1996), Touchpaper Star (Lapwing, 2004) and Cicatrice (Lapwing, 2006). A further volume is due from Salmon. His poems and stories have appeared in several major anthologies around the world.

Burning the Bed, his first film script, was adapted from his own short story, which was published in The Irish Times. The film stars Gina McKee and Aidan Gillen and was directed in 2003 by Denis McArdle. Among its other awards, Burning The Bed was named Best Narrative Short at the 2004 Dead Center Film Festival in Oklahoma.

In 2003, his short story, A Ghost, won first prize in the story category of the Cinescape Genre Literary Competition in Los Angeles. He has been a finalist twice in the Sunday Tribune Hennessy Literary Awards, (1995 for poetry, 1999 for fiction).

In 2005, Louise Jameson (EastEnders, Bergerac, Doctor Who) performed Chapman’s poem, Sea of Tranquillity, on the MJTV audio disc, The Actor Speaks 5: Louise Jameson.

In 2006, he and Philip Casey founded the Irish Literary Revival.

He lives in Dublin.
